Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about generating hreflang tags.

What are hreflang tags?
Hreflang tags are <link rel="alternate"> elements that tell search engines which language and regional version of a page to show to which users. They prevent duplicate-content issues across localized pages and help the right version rank in the right market.
What is the x-default value for?
The x-default value specifies the fallback page for users whose language or region does not match any of your listed versions — for example a language selector page or your main international homepage.
Do hreflang tags need to be reciprocal?
Yes. Every language version must list all the others, including itself. If page A points to page B, page B must point back to page A — otherwise search engines may ignore the annotations. Add a row for every version and reuse the same set on each page.
Does this tool send my data anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser with plain JavaScript — there is no backend, no API and no network request. The URLs you enter never leave your device.
